Once you place an order, we take care of organising the production and logistics for all of your barrels so you can meet your deadlines. Expertise
For a long time, the BILLON and DAMY cooperages have forged excellent relationships with their wood suppliers which allows them to ensure fail-free traceability of all forest sources and offer wine-growers the most sought-after characteristics from the different French forests in the centre and east of the country as well as the most limited quantities from specific forests. We can also supply you with Eastern European, Southern European and American oak as well as acacia wood.
We guarantee our wood is dried in the open air at our site for at least 24 months. This natural drying and maturing process reduces the level of moisture in the wood composites to allow the oak lactone leaching which enhances the potential of the aromatic components.
Certification PEFC
The BILLON and DAMY cooperages are PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified. PEFC works throughout the supply chain to promote best forestry practices. Because of this wood from sustainable forests label, clients and consumers can identify products that come from sustainably managed forests.
The PEFC certification system also ensures:
Respect for the PEFC rules established for managing and operating forests;
Tracking of the wood as soon as it is collected and throughout the entire process of transforming and commercialising wood products.
« French Tradition Cask » certification
The BILLON and DAMY cooperages have been “French Tradition Cask” certified by the French Technical Wood Centre. This quality label certifies that all phases of the cask production process are subject to strict controls.
CTB French Tradition Cask certification guarantees users that the production process is traditional yet innovative based on stave wood from French forests which are sustainably managed.
Below you will find the main certified characteristics:
- – Surface conditions, stave wood moisture rate;
- – Types and sizes of the straps, plug dimensions;
- – Verification of the content, circumferences and height of the casks;
- – Respect for the dimensions: verification of the thickness of the staves and bottoms;
- – Staves from French oak;
- – Water-tightness at the end of production;
- – Quality components: filler, straps, bands.
